How to Make Mini Bookcase (1/12 Scale), DIY for Dioramas or Dollhouses Today we’re going to make a 1/12 scale bookcase that is perfect for either a dollhouse or action figure dioramas. Or you could make several bookcases and use them to display your small toys and collectibles like Squinkies or Shopkins and all those other teeny tiny little toys that are so popular today. In the video you will see several possible uses for the bookcase such as: -Marvel Legends Falcon using the bookcase to display his bird sculptures at home -Sylvanian Families/Calico Critters and Li'l Woodzeez using the bookcase as a store shelf to display baked goods at a bakery -Pokemon’s Mewtwo using the bookcase as a display for his mini Pokemon figures -Marvel Legends Spider-Man using the bookcase to hold his figures and comics (Learn how to make your own mini comic props here:    • Craft: How to Make Miniature Scale Co...   -Equestria Girls Rarity and Flash using the bookcase to store their Shopkins -My Little Pony Pinkie Pie & Cheese Sandwich displaying their Squinkies on the bookcase -Marvel Legends Taskmaster using the bookcase as a weapons rack and Deadpool using a second bookcase for holding his toys The materials you’ll need for this project are: -Thin balsa wood. The pieces I’m using are 1/16 of an inch thick which is somewhere between 1 and 2 millimeters thick. I got mine from Hobby Lobby but you can also pick up balsa wood from Amazon at: http://amzn.to/2jZzZPv (affiliate link) -xacto knife: http://amzn.to/2ll2Ezk (Amazon affiliate link) -Metal ruler: http://amzn.to/2kPHexg (Amazon affiliate link) -(optional) about 12 cms long of strip of balsa wood that’s about .9 cm thick by .7 cm wide -(optional) Hand saw to cut the balsa strip -(optional) t-square to speed up the measuring. http://amzn.to/292UUiz (Amazon affiliate link) -Mod podge: http://amzn.to/2kPTo9D (Amazon affiliate link) -Paint brushes -Pencil -Acrylic craft paint. For one bookcase I used Delta Charcoal and for the other I used a mixture of Apple Barrel Toffee, Burnt Umber, and plus Anita’s Extender: http://amzn.to/2llo3sh (Amazon affiliate link) -Sandpaper Instructions: Cut and measure: -one back piece for the bookcase (16.1 cm x 6 cm) -two sides (16.1 cm x 2.1 cm) -2 bottom pieces (6 cm long) -6 shelves (2 cm x 6 cm) After making two of these, I recommend painting the pieces first before gluing them together. To start assembling the pieces, apply glue to one of the long edges of the back piece of the bookcase. Then I line up one of the bookcases’ sides to the back and rest it between a box and the bottle of mod podge to keep it in place. After the glue dries, I glue on one of the bottom strips to the back of the bookcase and make sure the bookcase is level when it is standing upright. Then I glue on the other side piece to the back piece and allow that time to dry. Then it’s time to fit the bottom shelf. The shelf probably won’t fit right away, but just make a note of where the shelf sticks out too far or if the sides are too long and use the sandpaper to slim the piece down. I apply glue to the back and sides of the shelf and slide it into place. Then I add glue to my second bottom strip and I place it so that it is a little further back than the lip of the bottom shelf. Once again, make sure the bookcase is level when it is standing and then allow these sections time to dry. Now we’re going to repeat the process of sanding down the shelves to get an ideal fit. I started with the top shelf. Then with 4 shelves remaining, I measured the space between the top shelf and bottom shelf and divided that by 5 to calculate that I should put a shelf approximately every 3 cm. Then I go back to sanding my shelves to ensure a proper fit before gluing them in place.
