"Tender" scenes are harder to write than big action cues, really. I'm a big believer in LESS IS MORE. You gotta know how to "ride the emotional wave". This was a smaller orchestra...maybe 30 piece, mostly strings. I'm very good at this stuff. EQUALLY important is how the cue is "MIXED" (volume of music to dialogue, etc.). It has to be "mixed" (volume of music compared to dialogue and sound FX) -- in the "sweet spot". Too LOW? Flaccid results. Too LOUD? Ruins it. This was well-mixed, unlike the previous junkyard, which I would have preferred louder in the mix. But, as a composer you're very rarely on the DUB STAGE where they combine all the sound elements for what you'll be hearing in the movie theatre or at home. The "Sound Supervisor is on the dub stage, and music will ALWAYS LOSE to sound FX. Still, turned out great. ENJOY!
