KKBBSC Choir at Franklin Graham's Festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2013

Kawthoolei Karen Baptist Bible School & College The Kawthoolei Karen Baptist Bible School & College was established and started on June 9th, 1983 with (4) teachers and (6) students at Htee K'Haw, near Mae La village in Pa-an district of Kawthoolei (Karen State). But since 1990 due to the affect of the long existing civil war between the Karen and the Burmese (1949 until now) it has become a Theological Institution displaced along with the displaced Karen people and continues its God's entrusted ministry of teaching and equipping young and old, men and women in Mae La camp which is housing more than fifty thousand people. Since the beginning of the “four-cut-operation” the Karen churches in Kawthoolei (regarded as insurgent area by the military junta) are cut off from their relationships with the Karen Baptist Convention of Burma. Pastor and ministers and even members of the churches from Kawthoolei were not able to attend meeting/conferences and have fellowship with the Karen Baptist Convention in Burma and vice versa.  Many of our young and old, men and women are willing to dedicate their lives for ministry of the Lord could no longer attend Bible schools and seminaries in Burma for their theological education and preparation for the ministry. Seeing the needs for organizing churches to cooperate and work together in times of national crises and for equipping young and old, men and women for the ministry of the churches in Kawthoolei as well as in various camps (refugees camps), the leaders of the churches met to discuss and make decisions to establish an organization for the churches and to establish a Theological Seminary. In fact, the attempt to form a new church organization called the “Kawthoolei Karen Baptist Churches (KKBC)” was made since the late part of 1970s. However, it was only in 1983 June and 1984, October respectively that the KKBBS and KKBC were officially organized and formed respectively. As churches and Bible schools in the refugee camps or displaced camps, our life and ministry totally depend on the financial assistance of our brothers and sisters everywhere, individuals and groups of friends from our Christian churches who have been faithfully and regularly visiting us and encouraging, strengthening and supporting us. We would also request our brothers and sisters in the Lord around the world to come, visit, encourage and see what the Lord is doing among the refugees along the Thai-Burmese border and let us join our hands together and make this world a pleasant, joyous, peaceful and meaningful place for living. Your kind consideration, assistance and help will always be greatly appreciated and remembered by our people, especially the leaders and members of the KKBC, and the KKBBSC.
