This is a digitally remastered version of Swami Vivekananda's groundbreaking speech at the Chicago World Parliament of Religions in 1893, which introduced the west to the Hindu way of life, yoga and Eastern spirituality. Swami Vivekananda was the disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, and the founder of the Ramakrishna Mutt. His travels in the West brought awareness in that part of the world of the phenomenal science and wisdom behind Eastern modes of spirituality, and in particular yoga and India. Swami Vivekananda is a popular figure even today, and his birthday in January every year is celebrated as Youth Day in India, in recognition of his phenomenally inspirational life, from which all youth can learn. The 1893 version of the Parliament was the first edition, and included the Jain teacher Virchand Gandhi, the Buddhist teacher Dharmapala, Swami Vivekananda and G. Bonet Maury. The parliament was held on September 11. Soyen Shaku a zen religious master, and Mohammed Alexander Russell Webb, a Muslim who had converted from Christianity to the Islamic religion was also present. For such a bright flame, his life ended too soon, and passed away just nine years after his Chicago speech in 1902, in Belur.
