In todays vlog we cycle on 70 of the 120km of the beautiful cycling tracks (B10, B20) around Neusiedl lake (Neusiedler See) in Austria. Text adapted after wikipedia Lake Neusiedl is the largest endorheic lake in Central Europe, straddling the Austrian–Hungarian border. The lake covers 315 km2, is about is about 36 km long, and between 6 and 12 km wide.. It is no more than 1.8 m deep which is a problem for shipping, but it somewhat facilitates the annual freestyle mass crossing of the lake from Mörbisch to Illmitz. Everybody who can swim and is more than 160 cm in height can enjoy this muddy adventure. The lake bed has totally dried up at least 100 times since its formation, some 15.000 years ago. Today the water level is controlled by a Austro-Hungarian water commission.. However, minor fluctuations continue to occur. The wind pressure can for example temporarily raise or reduce the local water level by as much as 75 cm! In 2001 the national parks in Austria and Fertő-Hanság in Hungary were together accepted as a World Heritage Site. In winter the lake freezes and you can ice skate there, like wein our vlog where I did figure ice skating equipped with scuba diving gear. Despite remaining a protected wildlife habitat, the region of Lake Neusiedl draws significant numbers of tourists. The lake is known as the "Sea of the Viennese", as it offers ample opportunities for sailing and windsurfing. There is also some commercial fishing. And it is a very loved cycling area. In summer there are some ferries crossing the lake between several villages. The LIV series are mountaibikes for ladies from the producer GIANT. Liv VAL E+ comes in 4 versions. This particular one is a Val E+2, with a 250 W central Yamaha engine, a 500 Wh battery and extrawide tyres. It is a hardtail with a Suntour fork, Shimano shifter and hydraulic disk brakes. The battery lasts between 30 and 100 km, depending how you use it.
