Highline Trail to the Garden Wall & failed attempt

July 19, 2024.... We set out to do a couple of hikes from the Logan Pass location just off the Going to the Sun road. This is during the busy season and we would suggest that you attempt to get to the Logan Pass parking lot at or near dawn. It was ou experience that 6:30 a.m. was almost not early enough! It is an absolute madhouse and rush of people at this time as many hikes use this parking lot as their tip off point. It was our intention on this day to do just a small portion of the Highline trail and then attempt the 6.8 mile round trip hike out to the dragon's tail at the base of Mt. Reynolds. It was going to roughly be a 10 mile effort. This proved to be the wrong decision as multiple members of our group did not feel comfortable navigating the inclined snow field on the way to the dragon's tail. Folks from Indiana aren't used to this and our newly purchased crampons were left back at the place we were staying!! (Duh) It was a great lesson in being fortunate in the experiences you have and what is provided for you. We thought the day was a failure but in reality, how many people get to experience the hodge podge hike we did on this day and see the views, wildlife and atmosphere of the day? NEVER take foregranted the day the God has granted you. Attempt to make the most of your current situation and be greatful to do it with the people you love the most.
