The Foundation interviews two San Francisco based board certified surgeons to discuss nerve preservation in the setting of implant-based breast reconstruction. Dr. Anne Peled is a dual trained breast plastic and reconstructive surgeon. Dr. Ziv Peled is a plastic surgeon trained in and performing a full spectrum of aesthetic and reconstructive procedures. Approximately 80% of breast reconstruction is reconstruction using implants. Post-operative sensation has been a limitation in this type of breast reconstruction. Dr. Anne and Ziv Peled developed a technique to preserve the sensory nerves supplying sensation to the nipple/areola complex. This video explains in detail the technique and success of this surgery.
