**Nathula Permit can be obtained on the same day if you arrive early at the permit office with required documents* When you are in Gangtok, a visit to Nathula pass is inevitable. In order to visit the pass, one has to obtain a permit from the government of Sikkim. When I reached the place I was staying, I was told that the permit has to be obtained one day in advance and can't be done on the same day. I was running short on time, and decided to get the permit on the same day, trusting my instinct. Note that the permit charges vary and you have to involve an agent to get one as they have some login credentials. The permit for Nathula is also valid for visiting the Harbhajan Baba shrine.
