AI is not JUST Generative AI and Generative AI is not JUST LLMs Why should you distinguish between them?! Let's analyze the situation… 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁, 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: 1️⃣ 𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 (𝘼𝙄): The broad science of giving simulated intelligence to a machine. 2️⃣ 𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘼𝙄: A subset of AI and specifically a type of deep learning neural networks, AI - Machine Learning - Deep Learning - Generative Networks 3️⃣ 𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙨: A “type” of generative networks that models human natural language to generate “similar” derivations. 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁: Machine learning is hard and deep learning is harder. So having access to AI was closed to a narrow audience. Generative AI and language models are new, they have been in research for years. However, ChatGPT started the movement to democratize and make “AI” accessible to everyone everywhere in the simplest possible way. With everyone racing to be “powered by AI” one way or another, a FOMO (fear of missing out) creates unfounded expectations and under-whelming results. Mixing personal productivity gains and professional productivity gains can be dangerous! 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗼 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲? 1️⃣ 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙮: If you are looking to implement GenAI in your business, invest in making your people understand the basics of the technology, its potential, its limits, and its risks. 2️⃣ 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩: You probably will not get the right use case the first time around. You need to have an experimental mindset to explore different possibilities. There are low-hanging fruit that you can start with. 3️⃣ 𝙀𝙫𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙖𝙩𝙚: Build an evaluation mechanism to measure factuality, speed, and overall benefit.
