There is a simple, but convincing scam going around using that actually gets WORSE when you think you've caught the scammers. I received a suspicious invoice from the official PayPal email address, so called the support phone number in the email - except I wasn't paying attention, and the number was written in the "Seller note to customer" section of the invoice. I didn't actually call PayPal - instead I was calling the scammers who then attempted to coach me through "securing my phone" because my account was compromised. Except - you guessed it - they are actually trying to getting access to my device in order to wreak even more havoc. If you receive a suspicious PayPal invoice, be sure to carefully inspect it before making any payments. PayPal won't ask you to call or send texts to phone numbers in an invoice. If you have any questions, be sure to contact PayPal customer support directly from the PayPal website - not from an email for information about how to file a report. Just a heads up. Stay safe.
