New Bike Day! | Giant Roam 4 (2021) | Keppel's Vlog 07 | Tulsa, Okla.

Last week, I bought a new bike! It's a Roam 4 (2021), by Giant Bicycles, and it's been lovely to ride. It's the first bicycle I've ever bought for myself, too. Like many people since the pandemic began, I've been more active outside. At first, I was walking and riding electric scooters, and started saving up to buy a scooter or a OneWheel. But, after I started cycling again, I decided to turn that savings toward a bike that fit me. I looked online for bikes, but decided to pop into my local bike shop, just in case there was a used bike that someone had sold that would fit me well. Lo and behold, Bicycles Of Tulsa had a new bike in stock that fit me well, and hit almost all of the checkboxes that I wanted. And, I couldn't argue with the price, which was less than many of the used bikes I'd looked at online! They let me test it out on the gravel track behind the shop, and I came back the next day to buy it. The Roam 4 is a hybrid bike, meaning it's not as fast as a road bike nor as technically agile as a mountain bike. But, it'll let me get out there and do a bit of both - and the first time I used it to commute, I found I got there about 20 minutes faster than I expected! I'm really looking forward to using it for some light bikepacking (camping via bicycle), and you know I'll post my adventures as I can. Here's what I was excited about, feature-wise: -Disc brakes make stopping a whole lot easier than the v-brakes, and don't wear down the tires. -700C tires are a huge improvement over the 26" tires on my old bike -2x7 gears, with a wider gear ratio than my old 1x7. I've been able to climb hills that I previously had to hike up, pushing the bike! The shifters are also amazing, when compared to my old twist shifters. They don't take 20 seconds to change gears, which means I use more gears as I ride! -Front suspension with 63mm of travel - it hits a sweet spot of comfort without being too heavy or bottoming out. -Rack mounts, to which I immediately asked the shop to add a Topeak Explorer rack.
