Ringstead Coast Run 17 December 2022

Paragliding the stunning Jurassic Coast in Dorset, UK Filmed on GoPro 11 Mini Edited on DaVinci Resolve 18 David Bowie : Wild Is The Wind 1976 "Wild Is the Wind" is a song written by Dimitri Tiomkin and Ned Washington for the 1957 film Wild Is the Wind. Johnny Mathis recorded the song for the film and released it as a single in November 1957. The song has been recorded many times, by many performers. The best known versions are by Nina Simone in 1966, and by David Bowie released in 1976/1981 as a tribute to Simone. Flight track: https://xcleague.com/xc/flights/20236... Story: I was lucky and had a fantastic flight at Ringstead. It was way too windy at launch at 12pm so after a quick kip in the car a few of us went down to try the beach. I've not launched there before but the beach was empty and the wind perfectly reasonable so I launched, turned, took just one step back and I was in the air. There were some whitecaps so clearly still breezy & just buzzing around west of the beach was soon up to 300' so headed west down over the low cliffs past Smugglers Inn, Osmington Mills, Black Head, Osmington Bay PGL, Eweleaze Beach and nearly to Bowleaze Cove. All pretty easy as was the return, but I did use bar quite often to ensure I stayed well out over the beach when there was lift. I was up to 450' as I got back to Ringstead Beach so pushed on following Seb Lee & made the connection to the main cliff which I hadn't managed before. Alex Dale joined & we sniffed out White Nothe and beyond and found it all smooth up to 1000' and working round the corner so we pushed on. They were on D wings so left me behind on my Delta (C) even with plenty of bar. So then a lovely solo flight over Durdle Door, Stairhole, Lulworth, Mupe Bay, Warbarrow Bay, out to Gad Cliff and max height of 1100'. The strong wind had dropped by this time (2pm) and it wasn't too lifty at Brandy Bay so Seb and I prudently turned back. We passed quite a few locals and not so local (Avonners I think) going East at Bindon Hill. 2 Landed out on that stretch. The wind was fully South by this stage so although we weren't too high it felt safe returning to White Nothe where it was easy to top up height again. I was aiming to land back at the beach but got on a good line crossing Ringstead Bay keeping my 900' a long time, so I sailed over the launch & pushed on to Osmington for a 2nd time. This time it was minimal, so unclear how far I would get and I was expecting a walk. But by fortune it worked all the way to the PGL where I turned back. Now it was borderline and I was eyeing up beach landings all the way back but without rushing. Finally I squeaked back and landed at the patch of grass just above the beach where Brian had also just landed. 2 hours & 43k (3 turnpoints) but on the coast you only get 1 turnpoint but still 36k on the league which is my record from Ringstead.
