A FUN TRACK turned into DISASTER! - 1st bigger DAMAGE on our Unimog trekking the SOUTHWEST (Eps. 2)

GET READY GUYS! 2023 will be full of adventures. We will take the Mog to remote places and do as many activities as possible. We will share all the amazing camping spots (most of them will be free) and what it's like to live in a crazy off-road truck FULL TIME! It's gonna be epic! This week we show you around the D'Entrecasteaux National Park. Our goal was to get to Black Point even though it was a bit of a rainy day. The start of the track is just a corrugated dirt road which turns into a sandy track through the forest a bit further in. It is an amazing track and so beautiful! We really enjoyed it and only had a few lower hanging branches that we had to work around. One, not far into the track, got hooked on Patrick's surfboard and ripped the fins out... But this was not the worst that has happened. On the way out from the last bit of track to black point a massive rotten branch fell onto the Mog. It landed on the habitation box first, then slid onto the cab and fell down, bending the mirror mount, destroying the glass and our passenger door. WE WERE IN SHOCK. The branch's diameter was 31cm, so quite a monster. We were upset but also glad that it didn't hit a car, because that would have been smashed. This incident highlighted why we are a big fan of brush bars and the cab roof reinforcement!!! We took the mirror arm off and tried to fix the door and arm as good as possible on the track. It was raining so the main goal was to get the door closed again, which almost worked out. Since we were pretty far in and still had a long way to get out ahead of us, we kept trekking and even decided to head towards lake Jasper. The track was really sandy winding through the forest going up and down the hills and of course, because the day hasn't already been emotionally draining enough, we got really bogged on a sandy hill. When trying to reverse down we slid more and more into a ditch so the only way out was getting up the hill! A couple off attempts using recovery boards (3 pairs) managed to get the truck out of the hole and Moggy started digging its way up the hill! WE MADE IT! Once we got to the lake it was already getting dark, so we decided to go for a swim, have some cheese and wine and stay there for the night. It is a beautiful spot!! We met a lovely family and got to use their SUPs the next morning. The paddle was so calming and relaxing after that rough day and really needed before hitting the track again! Last minute we decided to hit another short track to the Yeagerup Sand Dunes to have a look. We parked at the bottom and walked up and saw multiple 4wds attempting to get up unsuccessful :D.
