Fast forward to 1:18 to see the excess litter. What happened to the woman who once scrubbed their front door step and the surrounding area in 1950s Sheffield? According to this FOi request Staniforth Rd is cleansed twice a week and there is an education process. Dear Tim Wells, Thank you for your request for information relating to Behavioural change which we received on 11/06/2023. Please find Sheffield City Council’s response to your request set out below: Highways Service: What are the frequency of litter picks in Burngreave, Page Hall and Staniforth Road? We are able to provide details of the street cleansing regime. The majority of roads in Burngreave are cleansed 3 x per year and shop sites are 3 x per week Page Hall – Cleansed every 2 weeks and shop site twice weekly Staniforth Road – Cleansed twice weekly. What is the education program to change people’s behaviour to put the litter in the bins? As part of the Streets Ahead programme, Amey delivers workshops in schools across Sheffield, which focus on promoting behavioural change and looking after the environment. The sessions include; litter assemblies, litter picks, litter art competitions and litter poetry sessions. We promote the work done with schools through press releases and social media (Twitter). Examples below from past recent posts on the SCC news website: Take ya pick-er! Litter picking equipment now available in local libraries | SheffNews. Sheffield school children invited to talk rubbish with Streets Ahead | SheffNews. https://sheffnews.com/news/tek-it-ome... Bin there, chuck that - new bin wraps appear across Sheffield | SheffNews. Amey also provide and promote the free litter picking equipment in local libraries for members of the public to use. Litter is a societal problem and not solely one person’s responsibility , each and every one of us has our part to play. Neighbourhood services: We are aware of recent posts on social media that show the area in a negative light and we are working closely with our colleagues in South Yorkshire Police to investigate these and also reduce further unrest. Sheffield City Council has created an 18 point action plan, based on feedback from regular meetings with local residents and partners in the locality, to raise the overall standards of the area and make Page Hall a more sustainable community in line with other communities in Sheffield. The action plan includes points on finding solutions to the environmental issues which incorporates educational initiatives and strong links with schools. Dear Kate and Tom. I Vlogg all around Sheffield. I am struggling to find positive things to feature on as the City of my birth is being destroyed. My Grandparents and Great Grandparents would be shocked if still alive to witness, my family history goes back at least 200 years in Sheffield. Yesterday I went down Staniforth Rd, Darnall/Attercliffe which was once a proud Working class area. I have never seen so much litter on the floor, it doesn’t look like its been street cleansed for months, but on top of that it looks like the locals need educating about using the bins. I suggest there is focus on people being proud of their communities in Sheffield and using the litter bins, but to be honest I noticed few along the road or was I just distracted by the volume of litter. I can provide you with video evidence if you would like me to send, but I suggest you go and visit the road and see for yourself. I happened to walk through an estate and across the railway bridge at the top end of Darnall. This is a really nice modern estate, I couldn’t believe the disgusting amount of litter I saw through the estate itself. The book stops with the Leader and CEO of Sheffield city council, MP representing the constituency and local councillors and I would like you to tell me what you are all going to do in the short time to address the issue and the longer time to educate? I did do a Freedom of Info request to Sheffield about this issue and I thought I was listening to a fairy story and my recent visit backs up what I thought and went down to see for myself. Sheffield is no longer the city I was once proud to say I was born and bred in. Yours sincerely. Tim Wells
