Stuffed tofu is a Chinese dish in which tofu are hollowed out and filled with a flavorful mixture such as ground meat, vegetables, and spices. The stuffed tofu is typically pan-fried or deep-fried until crispy on the outside. It is commonly served with a savory sauce or gravy, and the combination of textures makes it a very popular dish in Chinese cuisine, offering a balance between the softness of tofu and the richness of the stuffing. Recipe: 2-3 firm tofu blocks, cut into cubes Stuffing Ingredients: 350g Chicken, or any other protein substitute Reserve tofu 1 tbsp cornstarch 1 tbsp Sugar 1/2 tsp white pepper 2 tsp sesame oil Salt for taste Sauce ingredients: 1 tbsp soy sauce 1 tbsp oyster sauce 1/2 tsp sugar 1 tbsp cornstarch 150ml or more water if needed Pinch of salt Chopped garlic and fresh chili 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 fresh chilli, chopped For cooking and frying: 2-3 tbsp cooking oil For garnish: Scallions Instructions: 1.) Cut the tofu blocks into cubes and create pockets for stuffing. Gently scoop out some of the tofu to create a hollow space. 2.) In a food processor add the chicken, reserve tofu, cornstarch and all the stuffing ingredients. Blend till to a smooth paste. 3.) Fill the tofu pockets with the meat mixture. 4.) In a separate bowl, make a sauce by mixing all the sauce ingredients. Set aside 5.) Heat a pan with oil over medium heat. Carefully place the stuffed tofu (stuffed side down) in the pan and cook until the bottom is golden and crispy. 6.) Flip the tofu gently and cook the other side until golden and crispy as well. Transfer to a serving bowl. 7.) In a same pan, heat oil over medium low heat. Add in the sauce mixture, simmer till the sauce is thickened. 8.) Pour the sauce mixture over the tofu and garnish with chopped scallions. 9.) Serve the stuffed tofu hot with steamed rice. Enjoy your stuffed tofu!
