ORIGINAL INFO: Have you seen a better comic? Just turned seven? RUMINATIONS: Among the Damned is unique among the Silent Hill comics Scott Ciencin wrote as actually having been halfway decent. If there had actually been someone on hand who knew ANYTHING about Silent Hill, this really could have been refined into something really good. Hell, the flashback approach at the beginning is decently-composed for the purposes of this story. It’s just that this feels like a good first draft rather than a completed story. We’re still not entirely sure what the hell is going on, making me wonder if Ciencin had actually written extensive notes in the script that actually explained things more, but kept getting saddled with terrible artists… or at least artists not suited to doing this kind of story. In theory, with Silent Hill, being a bit artsy in its visuals is preferable due to the amount of symbolism inherent in the series, but at the same time it needs to be GROUNDED in order for anything to make sense to us. Silent Hill in the games doesn’t appear as some bizarre, distorted world right out of the gate – it’s presented as a real, abandoned place… and THEN things get weird.
