Nutcracker, Spanish Variation

As a complete beginner aged 59, this was my first long choreography, helped by having studied flamenco dance many years ago. This introduced me to what is known as ‘character dance’ in ballet, which involves the balletic adaptation of national dances such as the csárdás from Hungary, the mazurka from Poland, the tarantella from Italy, and flamenco and the bolero from Spain. In The Nutcracker, dances from different countries are used to represent various sweets, including this Spanish dance which represents chocolate.
