Super Mario Bros. 3 [NES] Playthrough #07, World 7: Pipe Land

This is video #07 in my playthrough of Super Mario Bros. 3. Time to leave the ice behind and move to the Piranha Plant-infested World 7: Pipe Land. This is also known as the Pipe Maze. Instead of Hammer Bros., there are Piranha Plants on the map. Mario starts off with Level 7-1. This level is a vertical climb through a maze of pipes. On the island to the south, Mario goes through Level 7-2 (time index 3:08). To get the coins needed for the White Toad's House, the Frog Suit is required. Mario will need go go underwater, trip a P switch, and collect all the blocks that turned to coins. If you only have one Frog Suit, try not to get hit; Mario will need it soon. The White Toad's House contains a P-Wing (time index 5:34). On the southern island to the east, Mario uses a Jugem's Cloud to temporarily skip 7-3 and go straight to 7-4 (time index 6:03). 7-4 is an auto-scrolling underwater stage ... ouch! The Frog Suit makes this stage tolerable, especially while navigating the maze of Jelectros. Mario next goes to 7-3 (time index 8:15). If he's quick, he can get invincible and stay invicible throughout this stage, which is highly desirable. Then, Mario goes through 7-5 (time index 9:04). This level is something of an underground maze. There are several invisible coin blocks in this stage, which can block some jumps if you're not careful. On the north-central island, Mario faces the first Piranha Plant (time index 12:22). There are all manner of Piranha Plants here. At the end, Mario will get a well-deserved P-Wing. Next, Mario visits Fort 1 (time index 13:34). This fort seems mysteriously abandoned. To get through it, Mario must be able to fly, and fortunately, there is a Tanooki Suit here. The fort's only resident is Boom-Boom at the end. Mario next visits 7-6 (time index 15:48). This stage is a vertical climb that makes extensive use of arrow lifts. Fortunately, these lifts are not extensively used in the game as a whole. On the northeast island, Mario goes through 7-7 (time index 18:35). To get through this stage, Mario MUST stay invincible, or those Munchers will chew him up. Then, Mario visits 7-8 (time index 19:41). This stage is loaded with Piranha Plants of various varieties. Partway through the stage, he can collect a lovely Hammer Suit upgrade! Towards the end, there is a Nipper plant that breathes fire. Next, Mario visits 7-9 (time index 21:58). This stage is an outdoor pipe maze, and time is a little short here. After that, Mario goes through Fort 2 (time index 23:35). The first hallway is long and hazardous, and the Hammer Suit will come in handy. It will even take out the otherwise unkillable Dry Bones in the second hall. Then, Mario goes through the second Piranha Plant stage (time index 26:22). The Muncher plants here can be rough. For finishing this stage, Mario gets access to the castle, as well as ... a Super Mushroom? Really? Finally, Mario visits the castle (time index 27:42). This king has been transformed, as well, so Mario needs to visit the final Koopaling's Doomship to get it back. As the flagship, the final Doomship does not have any artillery, but it does feature those irritating bolt lifts and difficult jumps. At the end, Mario faces Bowser's oldest, Ludwig von Koopa (time index 29:57). Like Roy, Ludwig's jumps can cause the ship to quake, stunning Mario if he is on the ground. He can fire twice in a row. Worst of all is the layout of his command center. Try not to get trapped in the dip to the left. When restored, the eggheaded Pipe Land king will deliver the final letter--which happens to be from the King of the Koopa! Uh oh! He didn't even enclose a gag gift. Time to move on to Bowser's domain. Thanks for watching! This video is part of my Super Mario Bros. 3 [NES] Playthrough playlist. This is the version originally released with the NES in 1990. I am playing on the FCE Ultra emulator. All characters, story, music, artwork, and other components of this game are the property of their respective owners. Played and recorded in FCE Ultra version 2.1.5. Produced with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.
