NC700XD Alaska ADV Motorcycle

Is the Honda NC700 an "Adventure bike". Well, I just returned from a 7,122 mile trip to Alaska. I switched to knobby tires and rode over 1,000 miles on unpaved roads in Alaska and the Yukon. It was an epic adventure! I carried my camping gear, cooking gear and all the tools needed to complete the journey. I wanted a mid-weight bike with tubeless tires. I wanted a smooth motor - not a single cylinder thumper. I wanted modern technology like ABS brakes and fuel injection. I also wanted rock-solid dependability. I have bought and sold ADV bikes that were too finicky and high maintenance. I did NOT want a motocross bike because I was going to ride over 6,000 miles of highway! The NC700 (mine was the XD model with the new DCT transmission) averaged 60 mpg! It never used a drop of oil. I averaged 475 miles per day. No bike is perfect; every ADV bike is a compromise. But - in my opinion - the Honda NC70XD is the perfect bike for an adventure including both highway and unpaved roads. The NC700 costs no more than an ADV equipped KLR650 or WR250. PS. I can buy THREE NC700's for the price of a BMW GS! And I can buy TWO NC700's for the price of a new Honda Africa Twin! I don't need an electric windshield and multiple traction models. Simpler is better; less is more.
