A few other things to note: - Hickory sticks seem to splinter more than oak - People say oak sticks last them longer than hickory - You do feel the shock of oak drumsticks more than hickory With all that, I still have to personally go with hickory because I'm a creature of habit with most things. I have to always use Promark drumsticks (this isn't sponsored) because I feel I can depend on them more than any other brand. I think typically hickory is more dense than oak, but I'm not 100% certain if oak drumsticks are CREATED more dense than hickory drumsticks during the factory process. I've always heard in the drumming community that oak sticks were more dense (even though hickory is harder), but it may be different in terms of the actual wood themselves. Sorry if I steered you wrong there! There is a slight difference in the sound and feel of oak drumsticks and hickory drumsticks. The feel makes more of the difference as I mention. I also didn't mention, but oak drumsticks are just a little bit more expensive than hickory.
