Do you have objects at home that you think belong in a community archive? Have you ever wondered about how items end up inside museums or displayed at historic sites? Learn how these institutions collect and maintain their historic collections, the challenges this type of work entails, and how people can help prepare their collections if they are interested in having them considered for intake. Hear from Rosalyn Tonai (Executive Director, National Japanese American Historical Society, Inc), Kristen Hayashi (Director of Collections Management and Access & Curator, JANM), Kristie Haertel (Regional Archaeology & Museum Program Manager, National Parks Service), and Brandon Daake (Registrar, Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation) in a virtual conversation moderated by Sojin Kim (Curator, Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage) on September 23, 2021. This program is co-sponsored by the Japanese American National Museum, the Japanese American Confinement Sites Consortium, and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage and presented as part of the Tadaima 2021 Virtual Pilgrimage.
