Hiking Volcán Iztaccíhuatl in Mexico

We hiked Iztaccíhuatl in December 2023 as an acclimatization hike to prepare for Pico de Orizaba. Izta is the third-highest volcano in Mexico and with its many false summits, is often considered the most challenging between it and Orizaba, the highest. We did not reach the summit as we were moving slower than anticipated and had reached nearly 17,000 feet, our goal in preparing for Orizaba two days later. However, we got to take in the stunning views from Izta, including a sunrise from 16,000 feet, and Popocatépetl spewing ash nearby. While I would like to go back and reach the summit, I have zero regrets from this beautiful, but challenging hike.
