Joy is a retired 100m hurdler, a three-time Canadian National Championship finalist, and has proudly represented Team Canada on the world stage twice. As a member of Team Canada, she earned a silver medal at the 2014 NACAC U23 Championships and finished an impressive fifth at the 2019 FISU World Universidad. But Joy’s achievements don’t stop there! She served on the Board of Directors for AthletesCAN and co-chaired the Diversity and Equity Advisory Committee, advocating for athletes nationwide. She also contributed to the Athletes Council for Athletics Canada, always championing change and inclusion. Throughout her illustrious athletic career, Joy excelled both on and off the track. She was a standout on the Western Mustangs and University of British Columbia Thunderbirds Track and Field Teams, earning honors like the 2016 and 2017 OUA Female Track MVP, the 2017 USports Student-Athlete Community Service Award, and the 2017 Tom Longboat Award. Joy even graced the cover of Canadian Running Magazine in 2019! Beyond her athletic accolades, Joy is an inspiring storyteller and writer. She documented her experiences as an Indigenous Black Canadian post-collegiate athlete training for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics through her blog, offering a rare and honest glimpse into the athlete's journey.
