Horizon House is a prominent town centre office building in Upper High Street, Epsom. Burren & Whitaker Construction, who work extensively in the healthcare sector, were employed by Epsom & St Helier University Hospital NHS Trust to carry out a complete fitout of the 2nd and 3rd Floors of Horizon House as offices for their Right at Home division, which organises home care for the elderly and disabled in the Epsom and Sutton area. The 3rd Floor boasts a very large barrel vaulted rooflight which floods the open plan office with overhead natural light. However, with office desks positioned directly under this glazing, it became apparent that this was creating huge glare and heat issues.   Covering an opening of 15 metres x 6 metres is no everyday task, and we enlisted the help of SHY Shading with their FTS zip rooflight blind system. After collaboration and meetings on site, we supplied and installed 4 no. of these rooflight blinds, with side channels fixed to T section profile installed by suspension rods off the roof beams.  The blinds are motorised and operated by remote control.   The installation was carried out over a weekend as the offices were occupied.  There was the additional challenge of working at 5 metres above and around the desking and the very large and heavy blinds had to be manually carried up 4 floors! It was a very challenging but rewarding project - it is great to see the difference these large blinds have made to the offices, making the space comfortable and suitable to work in.
