Now, Canada is taking matters into their own hands by embarking on a mega project that will redefine the future of energy. But just how big is this project and what will it mean to the rest of the world? LNG Canada is a liquified natural gas export facility that is currently being built in Kitimat, British Columbia. This project is estimated to cost billions of Dollars. Specifically, just over $30 billion. It is estimated that the Kitimat terminal will cost a staggering $18 billion, while the pipelines will cost around $14.5 billion. But of course, a project of this size must have come as a result of urgency, which stems from the ever-increasing demand for cleaner energy sources. Countries like Japan and China come to mind when talking about cleaner energy, as both countries have begun to move away from the use of coal and other carbon-emitting elements. Once the LNG Canada project has been completed, it is expected to ship a minimum of 14 million tonnes of liquified natural gas on a yearly basis. These shipments will be made from two processing units called “trains”, and according to plans, two more trains will be built to increase the shipping capacity. Once the extra trains are in place and fully functional, LNG Canada’s shipping capacity will double to 28 million tonnes per year. As for where the LNG facility will get its supply of natural gas, it will come from the Northeastern B.C through the Coastal Gaslink pipeline, which is a 670 Kilometer pipeline that was built specifically to connect several gas fields to the terminal. With this connection in place, there is a guarantee of a steady flow of gas to Kitimat, where it will be cooled down to -162 degrees. Once the gas has been cooled, it will take a liquid form and will be transported by specialized LNG carriers to different locations. Now, the sheer magnitude of this project makes it difficult for a single entity to execute. For this reason, several parties have come together to make this dream a reality. The parties involved in this project include PetroChina, Shell Petroleum, The Mitsubishi Corporation, Petronas, and the Korea Gas Corporation. It is worth mentioning that of all the stakeholders involved in this project, Shell holds the largest stake, which is around 40%. The good news is, the project has been underway since 2018, and the first shipment of LNG is scheduled for sometime in the mid 2020s. That being said, you may be wondering why Kitimat was chosen as the location for this game-changing project? 00:00:00 Intro 00:00:20 LNG Canada Project 00:02:36 Kitimat 00:03:38 Construction Phases 00:05:10 Production Capacity and Technology 00:05:58 Environmental Impact and Sustainability Initiatives 00:07:20 Indigenous Partnerships and Community Engagement 00:08:35 Economic Impact and Global Importance 00:10:05 Challenges and Controversies Be Visionary and check out our merch store: https://visionary-builds.myspreadshop...
