Reassembly of Tõravere big telescope mirrors

One of the most important 'secret rituals' at an astronomical observatory is the aluminizing of the telescope’s mirror. Over time, the mirror’s surface collects dust and dirt from the air. A thin layer of aluminum, only about 100 atoms thick, is applied to the smooth glass surface, weighing just a few grams. Every 10 years, the mirror of the large Tõravere telescope receives a new aluminum coating. This video shows the reassembly of the telescope after the coating process.
