Previously, we drove from Skardu to Hushe, from where we begin the K2 Base Camp & Ghondogoro La trek, in reverse. The reason for doing so was so that the trek would end in Askole (instead of starting there), and then continue on to Snow Lake & Hisper La. This 12-day, 135 kilometer trek starts from (and ends at) just over 3000 metres, taking us over GG La at 5585m, going along the Vigne, Austen-Godwin and Baltoro Glaciers. We trekked during the 40-day observance of Muharram, so there wasn't the usual singing (and dancing) common with the Balti, Shia-Muslim porters and crew, mainly hailing from Shigar.
