Ranjani Ramachandran: Raag Shankara

Ranjani Ramachandran comes from a family of music connoisseurs and began learning music from her mother Vijaya. She is an ex-scholar of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy (SRA), India’s finest modern gurukul for Hindustani music, where she studied under Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar. At the SRA, she also learnt from Vidushi Girija Devi. Earlier, she learnt from Vidushi Veena Sahasrabuddhe in Pune and Pandit Kashinath Bodas in Kanpur. She has performed in major music festivals across India and abroad and has been awarded a number of distinguished prizes. Ranjani believes in the composite role of musician. She is a doctorate in music and teaches in the department of Hindustani classical music at Sangit Bhavana, Visva Bharati, Shantiniketan in West Bengal. The second piece of Ranjani's recital at the FEA-curated Past/Present festival in Kolkata was in Raag Shankara. Vilambit khayal in ektala and drut teentala bandish composed by Pandit Shankar Abhyankar. Ranjani was accompanied by Pt. Sanjoy Adhikary on tabla and Chinmay Kolhatkar on harmonium. Tanpura support was provided by Shaony Baruri and Dipanwita Bagdi.
