Susi Quatro - 1973 What can I say about the Youngmen? Well, I could actually go on and on and on about these very talented Gentlemen! I know I don’t have the time or the space to give them their true due! But I will drop a couple of cool tidbits I’ve personally been involved in! 1st off, the Balboa Island Parade After Party happened mostly because of the commitment of these four guys to come and play, as the original group, which has only happened a couple of times in the past 50 yrs. Fortunately, I was witness to those couple of times also! Once Bobby & Eddie Johnson, Bob Gulley, and Doug Altman, committed to the day, the party was on! Their entire set is here, and many tidbits of info about the group and their affiliations to OC is quoted within the set, so I won’t go into detail! However, because of the time restraints near the end of the day, I did NOT get to properly bring our Headliner on for the final set, and because of trying to recognize some very important people that helped me get this all together, I didn’t truly get a closing round of applause for this great group! Sooo. Would you all please, put your hands together, one more time, for the incredible, Y O U N G M E N !!!!!!!!! A little more info on the Youngmen! Bob & Ed Johnson still play often in the Carlsbad, CA area. In fact, their Friday night gig at the Carlsbad Inn has reached 30 consecutive years! That has to be one of the longest running gigs of all time! Bob Gulley, has done solo acts, had his own bands, guest appeared with many, including the Righteous Bros. and Bill Medley on several different tours, and headed up the famous “Rock Around The Clock Show” at the Hop in Fountain Valley, CA. Doug Altman continued his musical career with Linda Ronstadt, Ricky Nelson, & JD Souther. Doug still plays and did perform with the Johnson Brothers in 2012 and the Youngmen in 2014 at the Orange County Musician’s Reunion in Garden Grove, CA. Joining them on stage today is JT (Jan) Ashley on drums, as Doug came down with a last minute medical issue and couldn’t make the trip from Prescot, AZ. It was such a shame, Doug was gung-ho on this event from the very beginning! Hope you’re better Doug!
