I'm Charlie Melchner, Jr. from Mahopac Marina. We've been selling and servicing boats in the marine industry and in the community for over 40 years. I was here one day helping a friend get his boat started and the fellow that owned the marina at the time asked me if I wanted a job. I said no, that I was quite busy, I had just started a small trucking company, and I walked away. I came back a couple of months later and I was selling one of my small trucks that I had, and the fellow asked me again if I was interested in the marina or working there, and I said no. He said to me, "I'll tell you what. I'll buy your pickup truck if you buy my marina," and believe it or not, that's how I got into the boat business. I've been in the boating business, you could say, my whole life because my parents bought the marina when I was very young. Until I was about eight years old, we lived above the marina. I tell people that daycare for me when my mom was working and my dad was working was a life jacket, and I was in the marina with my father. The marina atmosphere is very family-friendly, and our staff and everybody that's here feel like family. Our customers, generally most of them become our friends. Our specialty is taking a brand-new person when they walk through that door and get them fitted in what's good for them and their family, and figure out what their needs are, how often they're going to be boating, and where they're going to be boating. From there we narrow it down to the style of boat they like. The great part about it is when you buy the boat, that's just the tip of the iceberg. With us, we take the extra mile where when you come down for the first time we get you started and running in the boat, help you get out there and do it. We walk you through it until you're comfortable, where we can say and you can say, "I'm ready to go for a ride with my family. I don't need anybody today, but I'm very comfortable to know that you're at the other end of that phone just a couple minutes away if I do have a question or I need something." We encourage people buying a new boat from us to stay with us for a period of time as our guest, so that we can make sure they're comfortable when they're out there, that they know what to be prepared for. Mahopac Marina is your one-stop shop. We do every aspect of boating, whether you have a jet ski or a 40-footer or a 6-footer. We work on three horsepower motors, electric motors, and we work on big 1000 horsepower engines. We work on just about everything. We've got factory-trained technicians on all the different stuff. We have a state-of-the-art repair facility which most people don't know exists. We warehouse a couple hundred boats and we have the ability to work year round in a controlled environment so that your job comes out the best it possibly can all the time. We sell and service boats all around the country and even into Europe and Canada. We have people that travel hours and hours and some thousands of miles just to do business with us, because of the reputation we've put forth with how we do business. We can handle every part of it and they can say that you come down, you put the keys in, you run and drive your boat, and that's all you have to do. We take care of the details for you.
