[JAPAN] Manami Fuji Tribute - Award-winning Actress, Writer, and Poet

This video is dedicated to Ms. Manami Iwasaki (aka Manami Fuji), an Award-winning actress in Japan. She is also an essayist and a haiku poet. Manami was born in Shizuoka to Japanese parents; she was raised as the 3rd daughter of six kids. In her generation, having a big family was quite normal in Japan. Manami moved to Tokyo with her family when she was about one year old. Before she started elementary school, her grandfather, who lived in Mishima, suddenly died, and she returned to Mishima with her mother, his only daughter. There, Manami grew up. In 1956, Manami debuted as the lead in the NHK TV drama "Kono Hitomi," and took this opportunity to move to Tokyo and begin her entertainment career. In 1957, she became the first actress to be contracted to NHK, and together with Haruko Mabuchi and Chitose Kobayashi, who played the three sisters in "Ronso," Manami gained popularity as one of the "NHK Three Girls." She also studied the basics of acting for three years. In 1960, Manami co-hosted "Higashi wa Higashi" with Yusuke Takita, and was a regular in TV dramas and variety shows from her 20s. In 1970, Manami changed her image and played the role of a hysterical and spiteful sister-in-law in "Hosode Hanjoki," which became a hit role. In this drama, she made use of her experience of spending 11 years as a girl in Mishima and volunteered to teach the dialect. Manami was also cast in a series of comedy series starring Tetsuo Ishidate. In 1974, after marrying screenwriter Hidehiko Hayashi, Manami took a break from acting when she had a daughter at the age of 37. She then focused on raising her child and limited her work to writing essays and novels (although she is said to have continued to appear in TV CM and attend haiku meetings. In 1984, she resumed her entertainment career in earnest and has since demonstrated her versatility, becoming known as a haiku poet and writer. In 2003, Manami's light-hearted exchanges with Eri Fukatsu in the drama "Masukko Choson Ane Sannin" (TBS series) drew attention. In 2007, when Tetsuo, whom she adored as a younger brother, passed away, Manami appeared as a guest on a memorial program, tearfully recounting an episode of how she was deeply moved when he gave her a cardigan that she had wanted so much when she was still unpopular. Since 2022, Manami has intentionally reduced her activities due to her age. In the same year, she appeared in the film "Grandma, It's Okay," in which she played the role of a grandmother suffering from dementia, marking her first big screen appearance in a long time. Hope she is well and happy!! Thanks for watching...; please give a massive thumbs up! My videos are sort of related to each other, so enjoy others as well. Peace out... to all the beautiful souls out there in the world. Cheers!
