The Search For A True Digital Aerochrome

OK. Video number 3, this time cut and merged, underlaid with music and introduced with some text. It's exhausting to put together a YouTube video like this - and this one is nothing compared to others. Hats off to all the content creators out there. Anyway, this is about the search for an authentic, "true" digital Aerochrome. And I actually think the search is over. A filter with the catchy name TB550/660/850 from Midwest Optical, in combination with a full spectrum camera, allows you to get a look that is extremely close to the mystical Kodak film. This is not surprising, because with this filter, the DSLR sensor registers exactly the same parts of the light spectrum as the original film: green, red, and near-infrared. Blue is blocked out. Post-processing is minimal, provided you set the white balance to about 2500 Kelvin before shooting and have a video editing program with a channel mixer (for example Premiere). There the channels are swapped: blue, which is now just IR, becomes red, red becomes green and green becomes blue. I have described this process in several articles on my blog http://hiddenrealms.ch/. The video was shot with a full spectrum Nikon D7100, the ultra-cheap (but perfectly suited for IR) 28-80mm lens from Nikon, the TB550/660/850, and an Orange-16 filter from Tiffen (for slightly darker skies). I recorded the music using Aiva. A great tool: https://creators.aiva.ai/.
