Brupeg had sunk in the Bundaberg Burnett River Flood 2013. The story we have been told is when the waters started to rise and it looked like the river was going flood the skipper tried getting Brupeg out to open waters and when heading down the river going at speed (the river was racing out at 20 + knots) Brupeg hit a sand bar that had shifted across the normal channel. Brupeg turned 90 degrees to the water and rolled over onto her side and that’s where she stayed for two months while the insurance etc got sorted. The guys who rescued Brupeg, stripped her down to almost nothing. Pretty much everything was ruined after the soaking in salt water but the hull was sound. We knew if we brought it as close as possible to scrape value if it failed, we would lose the least amount of money. We looked for four years for the right boat. Steel trawler, strong hull, ex-commercial survey, stripped of internal wall panels & insulation, good sized cabin and room for additional rooms and covered rear deck, good amount of fuel capacity and a separate wheel house. This was to be an expedition boat. We even ended up considering a couple of wooden trawlers out of desperation but I’m glad we didn't go for them and waited because then we found this one. Because steel trawlers that are convertible are in short supply (ie not absolutely stuffed and at the end of their life) we realized we would need to get one that wasn't in perfect shape and do most of the rebuild ourselves, buying one almost ready to go for what we could afford wasn't going to happen. The good news was, by buying a stripped out boat we could check and know every corner of it. Because nothing was left, all insulation, windows, equipment was removed we get to choose and replace with chemically safe materials and design and redesign how we wanted. Our goal is a chemically safe and environmentally responsible ‘little ship’ that can be our home and a place for our friends and family as means to travel to some of the most remote places on the planet. Specifications Dimensions: Length 57ft, Width 18ft, Draft 6-8ft depending on fuel load Hull Plating: 6mm mild steel all round Ice Plating: Additional 8mm of steel starting at the bow, extending back 6 meters and running parallel to the waterline, extending 500mm up from the waterline and below one meter. Main Engine: Cummins NTA855 Turbo Charged Intercooled inline 6cyl diesel. 350hp 1340nm Torque. Transmission: Advance HC138, 4:1 reduction driving a 46 inch four blade prop housed in a Kort nozzle with protective guards. Speed & Fuel Consumption: Cruising speed 7knots burning 18-22L per hour, Max Speed 10-11knots burning 63L per hour Fuel & Water: Currently 9,000L of fuel spread over 4 tanks, 7,000L of potable water spread across 2 tanks Future Fuel & Water: 27,500L of fuel split across 10 tanks, 500L of water and a large capacity water maker Vege Oil: Any oil on-board will displace Diesel. Our main engine is capable of running at full capacity on Filtered/Dried Waste Cooking Oil. The reason we use wast oil is cost and environmental impact. Diesel is $1.50 per liter where we are, oil is $0.18c per liter. It also is significantly better environmentally and has higher lubricating properties than low sulfur diesel, promoting longer engine life. Accommodation: Brupeg can comfortably sleep 9 people. Three private double cabins and a crew bunk room with three single sea berths. Brupeg has an on board media room so we can edit our documentaries. She also has a full commercial sized kitchen and a large lounge room with a large flat rear deck WOULD LIKE TO GET ON BOARD BRUPEG?
