What is a national park art residency like? In spring 2022 I had the immense privilege of being an official artist in residence at Crater Lake for nearly two weeks. I'm often asked what I do every day and what the experience is like, so I decided to invite you behind the scenes and share paintings, stories, and videos from my residency adventures. I also share parts of my painting process, too! I'm Claire, an environmental artist, writer, and watercolor teacher! I create and film my Adventure Art Academy classes during hiking and backpacking adventures. Watercolor is often taught as a complex and slow process, but I learned a different way of painting over the last ten years that is accessible, fast, and fun. I create each monthly lesson in a new location and walk you through every step of the painting, from the initial sketch to the final details.
