If you were to ask me if Saving Private Ryan is an excellent film I would say: absolutely. However, after giving the film a recent rewatch… I have some feelings. I’ve seen the film countless times over the years and despite having admired it a great deal, there was always something off about it that I couldn’t put my finger on. That is until now. Let me be clear, I am not saying it is a bad film. On the contrary, I would argue that Saving Private Ryan is such an incredible feat of filmmaking brilliance… that it conceals the fact that thematically, it is a bit of a clusterf*ck.
