Conflict Desert Storm 1 Mission 14 Counter Attack

Original method by LawV    • Conflict: Desert Storm - Counter-Atta...   Easy speedrun but kinda hard to plan because the game is capricious about how this run is done. I have two versions of CDS1. The first is the Steam version which is victim of bugs where your character can float in the air if you let him fall. The second one is the CD version that I have where the same bug still exists but less, but still is. This bug is mainly due to the fact that our modern PCs run "too easily" the game compared to those of 2002 and trigger bugs from the game. This problem is as I said more present in the Steam version than in the OG CD version. You can basically fix this bug by having FPS limiter software such as Riva Tuner which limits your PC to 30, 60, or 90 FPS in-game for example. This bug causes issues for this speedrun because to be faster you need to throw from the cliff 3 characters (here Bradley, Foley, and Jones), Connors being the only one to blow up fast the gate at the end to complete the level. A second issue exists which is how you climb the slope. My method is to prone and then get up quickly by pressing the space key twice. While doing that, Connors gets automatically through the crouch position which seems to trigger the ascension of the slope. If Connors begins to climb it, just run up through it. When Connors is about to finish climbing, the best way to get up the slope is to go a little bit on the right, because if not, Connors will just fall down to the bottom. It appears quickly that the CD version is then the best version to do this speedrun due to the fact that there are fewer bugs but the question of setting up a limit of FPS can improve the speedrun to make the 3 characters fall without problems and Connors to climb the slope smoothly. It appears that when a limit of FPS is set, my method to climb the slope works way less, almost never actually. The best way was then just to do this without Riva Tuner, on the CD version, and by making the 3 dudes fall without bug. After some exciting minutes of research, a spot where they fall the most smoothly was found. In this run however Bradley and Foley were still bugged and I had to move them to fall, Jones fortunately fell by himself. As I ordered Connors to advance while making this process, there was not time loss. I even managed to take on the night vision googles that I like to wear all the time in this game when it's dark out, here to put Connors in the right spot of the slope to climb it. I think this level can be done in 42 seconds, 41 if very lucky and consistent in the run.
