28th International Conference on Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Information & Engineering Systems (KES 2024) The importance of modern technologies in the development of sea ports on the example of the Port of Gdynia Abstract The growth of global trade increases the importance of ports but also poses new challenges for them. Nowadays innovative technology is transforming port world. It is a new era of intelligent ports, which use digitalization to improve not only their operations, but also to offer more efficient and sustainable services. The implementation of modern technologies significantly impacts the efficiency of sea port operations. Further growth of port operations makes digitalization a necessity. The article focuses on presenting selected examples of new technologies in one of the most important ports in the Baltic Sea basin– the Port of Gdynia. The aim of the article is to analyse projects of modern technologies implemented in the Port of Gdynia, which is moving towards Smart Port direction. The research consisted of literature studies, including online studies, and the collection of data related to port’s operations, such as transshipment volumes, structures and container transshipments. The article also discusses the smart port concept. The article utilizes analysis methods, mainly focusing on current analysis. The presented review of literature and source materials confirmed the lack of synthetic analysis of digitalization processes at Polish sea ports including the Port of Gdynia. This article does not exhaust the subject, but it is only a contribution to further discussion about the role of modern technologies in development of Polish sea ports. Moreover, innovative port activity is an interesting area for future analyses. Implementing innovative solutions is the beginning of achieving competitive position among the ports of the Baltic Sea basin.
