By far, the most popular and well known monster in the world of Quake would be the Shambler. A giant albino skinned monstrosity with no eyes, he was one of the most horrific sights for players back in 1996. It definitely doesn't help that he is one of the most powerful creatures in the world. The Shambler is unique in the fact that he has resistance to a particular weapon, in this case any explosives such as Grenade Launchers or Rocket Launchers. This means you basically have to go against the practical logic to shoot the big thing with a Rocket Launcher, since doing such will result in a lot longer of a fight. Since you aren't really told this, it wouldn't surprise me if many just assumed a Shambler had a ridiculous amount of health. The Shambler's main attack (and the only one showed off in the video, he kept trying to do it even when I got close) is to fire beams of electricity at his foes. Imagine the player is a conductor and he is the lightning, that means that the strike will always go directly to the player, making it quite lethal. The only way to avoid the attack is to not be in the Shambler's direct range of fire. Other than this main attack, he also can use his claws in either painful slashes or pretty much one shot smashes. The Shambler is not something you wish to mess with. It definitely doesn't help that the Shambler has the most health of any enemy in the game, or the fact that he starts appearing in E1M3 on the hardest difficulty.
