Basically, as Rich says, the Toyota LandCruiser gearbox and transfer is reasonably simple and exceptionally strong. What pt2 constantly references is how well this box lasted considering. Simon bought the 60 Series with 300,000km on it and drove it home from Port Lincoln in South Australia with it already making noises. It continued to make noises for the next 350,000Kms until getting so bad it had to be pulled out for a rebuild. Obviously, as we found cheap Taiwanese bearings in there, it'd been rebuild before Si bought it and not very well. Yet he managed to squeeze and additional 300K merely by servicing it regularly and using Penrite oil.
