Let's talk about how to deadhead Daylilies. Daylilies, or Hemerocallis, are tough, adaptable plants that thrive in plant hardiness zones 2-9. They develop multiple buds on scapes that flower above their foliage and deadheading their flowers will keep their focus on flowering as opposed to seed development. Because the buds can be arranged very tightly together I like to get in there with my fingers and snap off the old blossoms, being sure to take out the entire flower because the lower end of its structure contains the ovary which produces seeds. I got behind on deadheading a patch of Happy Returns repeat blooming Daylily and it started developing seed pods, so I'm using my clippers to cut out the scapes. Hopefully I caught it in time to get it to bloom some more. That's really all that's to it - regular, consistent deadheading will keep your daylilies in good shape. #gardeningwithsharon #yeggarden #gardencoach #plantgeek #zone3 #zone3gardening #zone4 #edmontonliving #gardeningtips #gardeningtips #gardeninspiration #daylily #daylilies #gardencare #perennialgarden #perennial #perennialflowers #perennials #perennialplant
