We will be talking about the StockEdge Mutual Fund Class of Money Market Fund. As investors, we are always on the lookout for low risk and high return investments. But there are a few asset classes which can promise us both. One such investment class belongs to the debt mutual funds category of Money Market Funds. All Debt Mutual Fund schemes are classified depending on the duration of the underlying instrument. They can be classified as Liquid funds, low duration funds, long duration funds and so on. A Money Market mutual fund is a short term debt mutual fund scheme that invests in liquid instruments maturing in less than 12 months. Such “liquid instruments” mainly comprise Treasury Bills, Certificates of Deposits and short term Commercial Papers. In the video we will discuss in great detail what the debt instruments are. For instance, Certificate of Deposit –is a type of term deposit offered by banks but they have a lock in period. These can give interest rates higher than a Fixed Deposit. We will also discuss in the video the short term capital gains tax and long term capital gains tax angles of such investments. Later we will discuss how these funds compare to bank Fixed Deposits.
