It's a crime that left some Chamblee church parishioners shaking their heads in disgust. A member of the National Guard is protecting herself against identity theft after her driver's license, credit cards, military ID and more were stolen from her church office Sunday morning. "This is the guy that came in and went into our offices," said Captain Lavonia Winford as she showed FOX 5 News surveillance video from the church. Winford is the youth minister at Chamblee First United Methodist Church. She said surveillance video shows a man entering her office. She said after the theft someone stole from her again. "A purchase had been made during worship," said Captain Winford. Lead Pastor Royeese Stowe said the crook entered the building while the congregation was praying in their temporary worship hall while construction takes place around the main sanctuary. She said the man who was wearing a baseball cap and a distinctive t-shirt stole from her office as well. "We can forgive him but I hope the state of Georgia won't. He needs to be punished," said Pastor Stowe. She said the intruder even took time to use the bathroom after stealing from her and Captain Winford on the Memorial Day holiday weekend. "I am really angry he did this to one of our military personal on Memorial Day of all days when she's about to go in for active duty," said Pastor Stowe. Captain Winford, a reservist with the Mississippi National Guard, told me she's headed to Fort Hood, Texas for annual training. She said she'll recoup the losses suffered at the hands of a man who could have gotten help at the church anyway. "If he was hungry we would have fed him. If he needed a utility bill paid, we would have paid it, there's better ways," said Captain WInford. The church members told FOX 5 News they handed over a copy of their surveillance video to Chamblee Police.
