Remembering Will Mitchell Through What It Means to Be an Academic

An academic’s role in society revolves around three important elements: scholarship, teaching, and service/engagement beyond academia. Although many in the SMS knew Will Mitchell primarily through his scholarship and role as Strategic Management Journal co-editor, he was an exemplar across this spectrum of activities. In this webinar, we remember Will’s contributions across these activities, and conclude with something we think he would agree with – the importance for the SMS to promote this range of activity among its academic members. Join Myles Shaver who hosted a panel of Will’s colleagues and friends including Gautam Ahuja, Connie Helfat, Mahka Moeen, David Ridley, Raman Sohal, George Stalk Jr, and Anand Swaminathan. SMS formally announces the Will Mitchell Dissertation Research Grant Program. This grant program is one of three grants awarded by the Strategy Research Foundation (SRF), the philanthropic arm of the SMS. This dissertation grant program supports 10-15 doctoral students each year with grants up to $10,000 USD. These funds support elements of the students’ research that enhance the quality, expand the scope, augment the research design, or in some other way enrich their dissertation projects.
