Here, we had a traditional Ladakhi dish called Kholak. After that, we spent our first day exploring the entire Leh city. Our first stop was Leh Palace. Leh Palace Leh Palace, a nine-story structure, was built in the 17th century by King Sengge Namgyal. The palace, which once housed the royal family, now stands as a historical monument with its ancient architecture and stunning views of Leh town. The palace's walls are adorned with old murals, and the rooftop offers a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Visiting Leh Palace is like taking a step back in time, where the remnants of Ladakh’s royal past still linger. After Leh Palace, we visited the Shanti Stupa. Shanti Stupa Shanti Stupa is a white-domed Buddhist monument located on a hilltop in Chanspa, Leh. It was built in 1991 by Japanese Buddhist Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura as part of the Peace Pagoda mission, to promote world peace and prosperity. The stupa holds the relics of Buddha at its base, enshrined by the 14th Dalai Lama. It’s not just a religious site but also a popular tourist attraction, offering breathtaking views of Leh and the surrounding snow-capped mountains. The serenity of the place, combined with its beautiful architecture, makes it a must-visit spot in Leh. Difference Between Stupas and Monasteries Stupas and monasteries serve different purposes in Buddhist culture. A stupa is a sacred mound-like structure that usually contains relics, and it’s built to honor the Buddha or significant Buddhist figures. Stupas are primarily places for meditation and reflection. On the other hand, monasteries are living quarters for monks and nuns and serve as centers for religious education and practice. They are often larger complexes that include temples, prayer halls, and sometimes stupas. After visiting Shanti Stupa, we headed to Stok Village. Stok is very close to Leh, making it a perfect getaway if you want to escape city life. The village is serene and offers a glimpse of traditional Ladakhi culture. In Stok, we saw a massive Buddha statue, which is one of the key attractions of the village. The next day, we left for Pangong Lake. We watched the sunrise over the stunning blue waters of Pangong. Our stay was in the village of Man, located right on the banks of Pangong Lake, offering a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature’s beauty.
