A tribute devoted to Sir Dirk Bogarde, born Derek Jules Gaspard Ulric Niven van den Bogaerde (1921-1999). After World War II, during which he became a captain, Bogarde began playing adventurous young leads in comedies and dramas films. As Dr Simon Sparrow, the romantic hero of the "Doctor Series", he grew extremely popular to the british audience. In the early sixties, Bogarde considerably shook up his image, acting for atypical, intellectual directors such as Luchino Visconti, Joseph Losey, and Rainer Maria Fassbender. He was nominated several times for the Bafta Award, including for the drama "Victim" and won it twice for "Darling", as Julie Christie's lover, and "The Servant", as sadistic, ambiguous butler Barrett. One of the most popular stars at the local and international box-office for many years, Dirk Bogarde became the first british director of the Cannes festival Jury. He found a second, prolific career in writing, publishing seven volumes of autobiography, fiction and letters, most of them being best-sellers. Bogarde died at 78, in London. He had recently been knighted. I mixed pictures and clips from the different steps of his life and career. The song is "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You", a masterpiece from Irish singer Van Morrison. Enjoy !
