Wonders of Wildlife Aquarium Full Tour - Springfield, Missouri

The Johnny Morris' Wonders of Wildlife Aquarium, also known as simply Wonders of Wildlife is a not-for-profit educational conservation-themed attraction in Springfield, Missouri. It is located adjacent to the Bass Pro Shops National headquarters, and is named for the Bass Pro Shops' founder. The 1.5 Million gallon Aquarium showcases 35,000 individual fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals in a series of themed areas including an ocean shipwreck, Louisiana swamp, Ozark forest, and the Amazon rain-forest. In a press release accompanying the facility's grand opening announcement Morris was quoted as saying, “Wonders of Wildlife is an inspirational journey around the world that celebrates the role of hunters and anglers as America’s true conservation heroes. Exhibits: Great Oceans Hall: Your journey begins inside the breathtaking Great Oceans Hall, bringing the depths of the ocean to the middle of America. Explore historic fishing boats that belonged to Ernest Hemingway and Zane Grey. Open Ocean: Begin your journey inside the Open Ocean, a circular fish freeway you can observe from the center. Don’t miss the living bait ball, where 6,000 herring swim in formation to confuse and intimidate potential predators. Great Barrier Reef: Discover Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, a three-story saltwater aquarium teeming with colorful reef fish including Maori wrasse, potato cod, Queensland grouper and moray eels. Look up to see a lifesized Humpback whale and calf swimming overhead! IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame: Featuring some of the sport’s most accomplished men and women through interactive exhibits, personal artifacts and masterfully recreated world-record fish mounts from both freshwater and saltwater species. Hall of Fishing Presidents: The Hall of Fishing Presidents features historic photos and artifacts from U.S. Presidents enjoying one of America’s greatest pastimes with a rod and reel in hand. Don’t miss Bass Force One, a Tracker boat that Johnny Morris gifted to George W. Bush. Shipwreck Reef: Plunge to the depths of the ocean floor and explore a sunken shipwreck now home to colorful reef creatures including eels, goliath grouper, lobsters and more. Guests can even touch stingrays circle the bottom of the ocean. Swamp at Night: Two-story cypress trees transport visitors to the murky swamps of the southeastern United States home to noctural animals like owls, alligators, beaver, black bear and more. Rivers and Streams: Explore the Ozarks through its rivers and streams, where you’ll encounter wildlife like a playful pack of river otters, a trout stream, and a lake filled with paddlefish, sturgeon, bass and more. Mangroves: Explore life within coastal mangroves, where a complex tangle of roots provides a sturdy structure home to diverse marine life that also protects the coastline from erosion. Out to Sea: Explore coastal waters where you can view sharks, goliath grouper and dozens of colorful reef fish. Brave guests can take the immersive experience even further with the Out to Sea Shark Dive, placing them in an underwater cage inside the exhibit. The Amazon Rainforest: Home to incredible animals like poison dart frogs, red-bellied piranhas, araçari toucans, a twotoed sloth and more, the Amazon Rainforest exhibit aims to educate visitors about the “lungs of the planet” and the incredible biodiversity that calls the rainforest home. The National Bass Fishing Hall of Fame: The Bass Fishing Hall of Fame is dedicated to celebrating and promoting the storied sport of bass fishing - a must-see for anglers and fans around the world! Under River: Featured on Animal Planet's hit television show TANKED, this unique exhibit allows you to stand on the bottom of a flowing freshwater river as bass, walleye, gar and more swim alongside and above you. Community Pond: Peek beneath the surface of local rivers and streams and meet paddlefish, sturgeon, bass and gar. You may even spot one of our divers feeding fish! Marvels of the Deep: Explore some of the deep ocean’s most mesmerizing wonders like jellyfish, seahorses, spider crabs, and a giant pacific octopus. You can also explore a living coral reef and seashells from around the world. Caves: The Dark Wonder: Explore Ozarks typography inside this limestone cave where you’ll weave between stalactites and encounter bats and blind cave fish. Don’t miss the sinkhole above your head! River Monsters: Explore an underwater tunnel filled with some of the world's largest freshwater monster fish like seven-foot-long alligator gar, giant Amazon arapaima, elusive freshwater rays and shark catfish from Southeast Asia. Each habitat features painstaking attention to detail including massive hand-painted murals, native foliage and special effects that deliver the chill of the Arctic, the cold winds of the Alps, the dry sun of the African Savannah and more.
