Inside the Brand New Parramatta Light Rail Vehicle - First Look at the new CAF Urbos 100 Tram

I was very fortunate to be invited by Parramatta Light Rail to view the first CAF Urbos 100 tram. This was on Monday 12th December 2022, and this new light rail vehicle was at the Yallamundi Stop (formerly Rydalmere Station). In this video, I'll show you close-up footage of the 7 articulated modules that make up this tram. These Parramatta Light Rail vehicles are longer than those on the L1 Dulwich Hill Line and Newcastle Light Rail by having 7 modules, instead of 5. I'll then go inside and show you the seating layout, facilities for wheelchair users and cyclists, the much improved information displays and of course some door opening and closing footage. It's then into the drivers cab where I discover what some of the buttons do! It's also where I get a little technical and start talking about the Onboard Energy Storage System (OESS) which will allow these light rail vehicles to operate on the wire-free sections of Parramatta Light Rail. This also includes a special facility to recharge the trams batteries at the Westmead Terminus without using overhead wires! I'll make some comparisons with the older CAF Urbos 100 vehicles on the Dulwich Hill and Newcastle Light Rail lines, so that you can understand the many upgraded features on this new breed of trams. Thanks again to Parramatta Light Rail for inviting me along, and making this video possible. And to CAF as well for answering my questions and letting me press a few buttons! However, sometimes the information isn't available, so I'll use my railway knowledge and insight to explain something to the best of my ability. If accuracy is important, do check the comments, as other viewers will often pick up on things I've missed or any mistakes made. Also note that for older videos, things may change over time, causing some of the information to become out of date. Construction Sites, Maintenance Facilities and other Private Property All footage of construction sites, maintenance facilities and other private property is taken from a public vantage point. The only exception is if it's an open day or I have special permission to access the site. The iPhone's small lens and zoom function makes it easier to film through small gaps in hoardings or fencing, so it may look like I'm on site when I'm not! If you would like to know the exact filming location, then ask me in the comments. To get in touch: Email - [email protected] Twitter DM - twitter.com/transportvlog
