What are the main concrete components and properties. How environment influence the concrete exposure class. What is characteristic strength of concrete and why the right mix is so important ⬇️⬇️ Cement, water, sand and stone is needed to get the best civil engineer composite ever 😁 I will tell you today about few most important concrete properties, but could be talking hours about concrete as everything has influence on it, like water PH, or some aggregate reactivity with cement. Concrete mix design and ready mix concrete ⬇️⬇️ Strength of concrete: C16/20, C20/25, C25/30, C30/37, C35/45, C40/50, C50/60. All these are characteristic concrete strength 'fck' and mean that your samples should withhold the pressure. First number is for a cylindric sample - D150mm and 300mm long and this sample is actually better representing concrete reaction to compression. Second number is for a 150mm by 150mm cube and we mostly be dealing with this shape on site, though we will be making 100x100 cubes. In case of C40/50 concrete after 28 days of curing should achieve min. 40N/mm2 for a cylinder and 50N/mm2 for a cube. If you look at the normal distribution the value of 'fck' is at 5% meaning 95% of the concrete is expected to be more, or equal. Please have a look on other concrete types you can see here in UK: https://www.hanson.co.uk/en/ready-mix... One of the ways of checking the concrete strength on site are thermocouples checking the T of concrete after placing: https://maturix.com/solution/strength... Water to cement ratio is of huge importance as adding water to ready mix dramatically changing the design weakening the concrete compressive strength and making it less durable. There are admixtures that can be added to make concrete more workable, but not water please! Wherever concrete is placed the environment acting on it and having the right one means the right concrete exposure class is chosen. These represent different type of concrete corrosion. https://www.betonconsultingeng.com/co... You will also see DC classes, especially when in contact with ground (chemicals). Aggregate type is important too and taking the element to consideration the aggregate size might be adjusted to make sure our complete RC element works properly - full access of concrete without leaving any voids. Typical sizes are D32, D20, D10. Another very important property is the concrete consistency represented by concrete slump: https://www.easymix-concrete.co.uk/ne... There are 5 classes from S1 to S5 and apart from these on site we want to have a pumpable mix to keep the concrete running 😁 0:00 intro 0:55 concrete strength 2:20 thermocouples 2:50 concrete mix 3:00 water cement ratio 3:45 concrete exposure classes 4:14 aggregate sizes 4:40 concrete slump 6:12 pumpable mix 6:43 join the community JOIN the best engineering community 👍👍👍SUBSCRIBE NOW!!!👍👍👍 leave the THUMBS UP!!! and follow the LinkedIn page 😁 LinkedIn: / siteng Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/siteng This video is about: what is concrete, concrete in construction, civil engineering 2022,what is concrete strength, what is concrete slump, concrete exposure classes, concrete mix design, concrete properties, concrete 101,basics about the concrete, concrete compressive strength, construction in UK,site engineering 2022 #civilengineering #construction #concrete
