In this video, Lauren Ramlan (BIOME Co-President) and Colin Kalicki (Lab Manager) give a lecture on patents and proteins, covering the following: - What patents are - How to read claims on patented proteins - Types of patent claims - How to find protein patents - Interpreting results from protein databases - Searching for proteins using BLAST (nucleotide and protein) - Finding FASTA sequences for proteins This lecture is related to a project called the Public Domain Protein Project that BIOME is running. The goal of the project is to take patent-protected proteins (such as Cas9) and make new versions of them that are free-use so that anybody can use them.
