WALKS IN DORSET : CORFE CASTLE TO CHURCH KNOWLE (INCLUDING THE GRANGE ARCH FOLLY) (4K)

In this episode of my series “Walks in Dorset”, I take a 6 mile circular walk from the village of Corfe Castle which is located 6 miles South East of Wareham & 5 miles North West of Swanage. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan. I parked my car at the National Trust car park which is just North of Corfe Castle and made my way to the side of West Hill (to the West of the Castle). Initially I followed a section of the Hardy Way, Westwards, at the foot of West Hill as I wanted to explore a derelict Lime Kiln. Eventually I started my climb to the top of Knowle Hill where I enjoyed some amazing 360 degree views. After taking a short detour North to visit the memorial to the “Creech Barrow Seven “ (seven local men who lied secret lives in WW2), I continued Westwards along the ridge to explore the splendid Grange Arch Folly. Retracing my steps, I came off Knowle Hill and down into the valley to the pretty village of Church Knowle. I took the opportunity of visiting both The New Inn and the Church of St Peter. I then headed South to meet up with the Corfe River before heading East & then North East back to Corfe Castle. My final destination was the Fox Inn at Corfe Castle – one of the oldest pubs in Dorset. Information Sources: Wikipedia, Dorset Churches, Historic England, British History Online & Dorset OPC.
